Ok Yaki
ABOUT
I’ve only had okonomiyaki one other time, so I’m not the expert but we enjoyed the one by Ok Yaki. For those not familiar with it, okonomiyaki is a Japanese style savory pancake made with cabbage and topped with special Japanese Kewpie mayo, house-made okonomiyaki sauce, scallions and Bonito flakes. I would prefer a little less sauce and a little more crunch, but either way, the flavors were delicious.
Outside of the okonomiyaki, the other main dish was the yakisoba - stir-fried noodles. The founder of Ok Yaki also recently spent a few months in Japan exploring the cuisine, so I look forward to seeing new menu items!
Ok Yaki pop-ups take place in two forms i) taking over a restaurant or ii) setting up a tent at a brewery/event. We attended the latter, which resulted in a longer wait. It took nearly 40 minutes to get our food after ordering, so next time I’ll go to one of the restaurant pop-ups or just show up right when they open.
FAVORITES
My favorite was the okonomiyaki. We added shrimp, but you can pick any protein you want (i.e., pork, steak or tofu). Don’t forget to get the hot sauce/chili oil!
