ABOUT
Most people don’t realize that The Brasserie & Neighborhood Cafe at Parish, has a full-service restaurant upstairs (aka the Brasserie, which requires reservations) and then a casual cafe downstairs (aka the Neighborhood Cafe). I haven’t eaten upstairs since college and honestly prefer the causal environment downstairs. Fair warning, the couches downstairs are very uncomfortable but the tables and “bar/stool” seating are perfect. Also, the weekend brunch that is served at the Brasserie is also available at the Neighborhood Cafe.
At one point, Nizar and I would go every Saturday (we live across the street). There is nothing fancy about this place, just delicious and well-executed food. The cuisine is geared towards more Southern/New Orleans flavors, but it has all of your typical brunch items!
zdapproved tip - If you live in the area, you get a neighborhood discount (10% off). Just let them know when you are checking out!
WHAT TO ORDER
For a party of two, I would recommend (2) mains. My favorite dishes include:
Drinks: Cold Brew
Sweet Dishes: Acai Bowl (probably one of my favorite ones, but most people disagree with me, except Nizar!)
Savory Dishes: Avocado Toast & the Pastrami Sandwich (ask for it toasted)
I’m not a huge fan of their omelettes, but the biscuit is decent (not the best). This is the place we come to when we don’t want to try something new and just want some reliable avocado toast & açaí bowls.
