February 2020 Update: I took a six month hiatus from June 2019 to February 2020 and was a little underwhelmed by our meal. Maybe it was just an off day but we did not enjoy our black truffle pasta with uni butter and then the fried oysters weren’t crispy enough. They were placed directly on a sauce so were supper soggy.
June 2019: All hail the creative minds behind Watchman’s. This quickly became one of our favorite spots when it opened last year in Krog Street Market. It’s owned by the same team behind Kimball House, so I wasn’t surprised that the decor and menu were beyond expectations. Dining at Watchman’s feels like you are eating in an indoor garden with plants floating above you with table accents of teal and white.
If you love seafood, then there are plenty options for everyone. However, they have surprisingly good vegetarian dishes that sometimes have been our favorite bites of the night. Although I don’t drink, they are also known for their cocktail program. But they have always been able to make me a custom mocktail based on my flavor preferences. Their menu changes often and I have never been disappointed. I am obsessed with this place.
WHAT TO ORDER
For a party of two, I would recommend 1-2 starters, 1-2 entrees , 1-2 sides & 1 dessert. Please note that the menu changes often. Some of my favorites may no longer be on the menu but they include:
Starters: Tuna Crudo & Crab Fritters
Sides: Coconut Bun, Hushpuppies & any Seasonal Vegetable
Entrees: Whole Fish (enough for 2-3 people to share) & Snapper
Dessert: Coconut Creme Brulee & Key Lime Pie (this is very good but I’m not a key lime pie person)
