ABOUT

Root Baking Co. is my go to spot in Ponce City Market for a “healthy-ish” meal. Most of the dishes have a Mediterranean touch to them (e.g., Moroccan Chickpea Soup & Harissa Chicken Sandwich) but it’s also a great place to get pastries or your bread for the week. FYI: They will even cut the bread into slices for you. While the breakfast/brunch menu is small, all the dishes are delicious. I would go here for brunch if I was look for something light. In my opinion, this is one of the best fast-casual bakeries in town.

Root Baking Co. also occasionally holds pop-ups in the evening, hosting chefs such as Parnass Savang from Talat Market and Sarah Dodge from Bread is Good (just to name a few). They even started their own pop-up on Fridays called Pizza Jean’s, offering a red or white pie/slice of the day. We loved the white pie all four times we tried it (the toppings change every week). Don’t forget to order the cucumber salad though! I also hope to be able to catch one of their croissant or bread making classes soon.

Lastly, most people miss this place but it is located on the second floor of Ponce City Market (on the opposite side of Citizen Supply, above Williams and Sonoma).
